✦Sigma Octantis — σ Octantis, the southern pole star. Fifth magnitude and barely visible, it sits about a degree from the south celestial pole. From Wellington, at 41° south, it stands 41° above the southern horizon and never sets: the one fixed point the rest of the sky turns around, all night, every night.
